THE LAND BETWEEN

AP Studio Art Concentration, year one

Through a series of twelve works I forged my internal appreciation for both of my cultures into physical pieces of art. As an illegal immigrant from Mexico, I learned to accept both the good and the bad of both sides of the border. As a child hearing my parents reminisce about their homeland made me wonder why they left it, and when living in poverty I wondered why we didn't just go back.

I choose to use warm colors for the culturally rich, yet poverty stricken country I was born in. And cool colors for the industrialized and sterile land of opportunity I grew up in. Through the course of twelve works I painted the double edged sword of immigration.
